Introduction
Various breeds and varieties can be used in the fur production industry. The decision of which breed to choose is a question of demand. The rabbits you will use will greatly depend on which particular market you are supplying within the fur trade. Rex fur is one of the most common fur types, mainly because it produces a high quality pelt with relative ease.

Yet furs (such as Satin and Silver Fox) can also be highly marketable. Silver Fox rabbits have a unique fur structure that mimics that of the Silver fox (hence the name). These furs are often used in high end coat production.

The luster that Satin furs produce is unique to the breed. When light hits the hair, it gives it a noteworthy glow. This fur is often used to line the collar, cuffs and hems of clothing, as well as in craft trimmings and costumes.

Rex fur is plush and velvet-like in texture. There are many natural color options available throughout the breed. There is a lack of guard hairs, which makes it easier to produce a high quality coat. Finally, it is the most frequently demanded type of pelt in the fur industry. Below are the three activities you will complete within this lesson to explore the process these pelts go through in order to become preserved for use:
