There are a few ways to identify your rabbit. Two common ways
include placing a tag on the animal or tattooing the rabbit's ear.
In some countries, metal or plastic tags
may be used to mark rabbits. Sometimes
a plastic tag is placed on the rabbit's ear.
Others may use metal bands. The metal
bands, such as the one
on this rabbit's
ankle,
can be tricky because
as the
rabbit grows the
band gets
narrower.
This means that it needs
to be changed
or it will eventually
cut into the
animal's
flesh and hurt it.
In the United States, tattooing is the accepted method of identification for rabbits. It is easy to do, permanent and creates no disfiguration. Rabbits can be tattooed just prior to, or at the time of weaning.
