4-H Horticulture ID and Judging

Horticulture is the art and science of growing fruits and nuts, vegetables, flowers and foliage plants and ornamental plants. Horticulture is a profession, a vocation, a hobby, an industry, and a way of life for millions of people. Horticulture is very important to Florida's economy and is vital to everyone's health and well-being.

Youth who take part in the 4-H horticulture project can:

  • Learn to plan, care for, and manage vegetable and/or flower gardens, lawns, or commercial horticultural crops.
  • Learn about pest management.
  • Learn basic facts about plants and soils.
  • Apply knowledge by experimenting with plants in a laboratory or in the field.
  • Learn about landscaping and water gardens

Registration Open February 1 and will close June 4 via 4-H Online
Cost $10 per member, no charge for Cloverbuds
Day of Event

Check in: 9:00am

Youth Orientation: 9:45am

Contest Begins: 10:00am. Contest should last around 2 hours

 

  • WHAT TO BRING TO THE EVENT

    Youth contest participants will need to bring the following items: 

      • Clip board
      • Pencils
      • Smile

    Family members attending the event may want to bring:

      • Lawn chair-If you want to sit outside the building.
      • Snacks-There are a few restaurants nearby for lunch options.
      • Water
      • Camera- You are welcome to take photos of the plant specimens after the contest.
  • YOUTH PARTICIPATION AT STATE
    • Each county 4-H program may enter up to two Senior, Intermediate, and Junior teams in the competition. A 4-H team consists of at least three members and no more than four members.
    • Each county 4-H program may also send up to two independent youth, per age division. 
    • Individual or team state winners are not eligible to compete in future state 4-H Horticulture ID/Judging events.
